As my reign of the 2018 Scallop Days Queen comes to an end, I’ve never felt so incredibly thankful to have an opportunity to represent our beautiful Digby County. I received a role in this title where I could be myself, accomplish many things, making people smile, and made me become a better person throughout the year. Thank you to my sponsor - O’Neil Fisheries, without your support I wouldn’t be in this spot today. Thank you so much Alain D’entremont for helping me get through this year and for keeping my head up from going bonkers. It has been an amazing experience and so many memories were made. Being scallop Queen, has made me gain better skills in public speaking, better communication with people, being patient, writing skills, and becoming a better leader. I want to say thank you to Taylor Wood- First lady in waiting, by sticking by me through my reign, and being a good supporter. We became the bestest of friends that has given us memories and friendships that will last forever. We’ve supported one another, even when I couldn’t attend Apple Blossom as I just had a baby, so you stepped up and worked hard for that role and couldn’t be prouder as where you stand today in your position. Special thanks to the Scallop Days committee for supporting me since Day 1, I appreciate it so much. Thank you to Joey for catering me around at events. I wouldn’t be able to get to my events if you didn’t drive my float. To Cheryl, and Brian for finding confidence in me through my reign. You both made me feel apart of the family, and pushed me to not give up even when being Scallop Queen is busy and sometimes hard work. Thank you to Claudia Crocker, for believing me and helping me get through my reign. Our friendship got stronger, and you’ve inspired me. From watching you being 2017 Scallop Queen, to where you are now, you’ve become such a fine young lady who can make anyone smile. To Georgia- my child attendant, thank you so much for being my side during my reign. You have made this experience for me as an amazing one and I’m hoping one day you run for Scallop Queen, as you’d make a lovely one. It takes alot of patience to sit up on that float with me, and not complain of a butt cramp. As a little girl I always told my family I would run for Scallop Queen one day, as watching the previous princesses run inspired me! Before I became 2018 Scallop Queen, I was a shy girl, where it was hard for me to speak in front people, and to communicate with people I didn’t know and that I didn’t think I could put myself out there and myself be heard.  For that being said, I couldn’t of done this without my family and friends. Thank you for believing in me, pushing me to my max level , and making me stronger than ever. It was fun dressing up and being able to wear a Crown, and ride on a float in parades at events, waving in princess format, and watching people smile and get excited as the Queen arrived, but its time for me to hand over my title to the next Scallop Queen. I look forward to watching them blossom and get the same experience as I did. I know you’ll be terrific! Thank you all once again for giving me the opportunity to reign over Digby County as Digby Scallop Queen 2018. It was a pleasure representing Digby.

As my reign of the 2017 Scallop Days Queen comes to an end I can’t help but feel so thankful to have the opportunity to represent Digby not only throughout the county but as Princess Municipality of Digby at the 2018 Apple Blossom Festival and everything this title has given me. I have had so many opportunities throughout the year and none of that would have been possible without my sponsor- Whale Cove Campground. Thank you for supporting me through this amazing experience. Special thank you to Tina- not only did you decide to sponsor me, you gave me the push I needed to do this. Without you, I don’t think I would be in this position now. I also want to say thank you to the Scallop Days Committee who has given me so much support since day 1. To my child attendants- Emma Perry and Logan van Kippersluis- you guys have made this experience an amazing one. You’re both such amazing humans and I can’t wait to see you grow into fine adults. To Taylor Barnaby, Cheryl Forrest and Susan Rice- thank you for lighting the way throughout my reign. You three gave me some great insight and I am so thankful for everything you did. A big thankyou goes to the Municipality of Digby for sponsoring me and helping me through Apple Blossom. The experience is something I will never forget. The skills and knowledge I received from it is something I don’t know how to put into words. Thank you to the communities of Digby County for always making me feel welcome and loved at every event I went to. I always look forward to each and every one, wondering who I will meet next or see again. Thank you to everyone involved with Apple Blossom for pushing me through a busy week! Especially Angie Pelton and Stephanie Cox-Lingard for being there no matter what and helping me through any road blocks encountered. To my Apple Blossom sisters- I don’t use this term lightly. You 11 girls have become a second family to me. I am so thankful to have gone through this incredible, life changing experience with you. We are a family now and nothing will change that. Last but not least, thank you to my friends and family for helping me through the busiest year to date. I wouldn’t have made it anywhere without you. Special thank-you to my Grammy Leta for helping with dress alterations and always making sure my dress is in near-perfect condition for all my appearances.

This past year has helped me become more independent, knowledgeable, gave me better public speaking skills, speech writing skills, and better people skills. Most importantly, this competition has made me into a better leader. Anyone can dress up but it takes a special person to be a spokesperson for the area.

I am so excited to be handing over my title to the next Queen and I know she will do an amazing job! I look forward to watching her go through the same experiences I did and watch her blossom. Thank you once again to everyone for the opportunity to reign over Digby County as Digby Scallop Queen 2017.

Over this past year I have had the honor of reigning over Digby County as the 2016 Scallop Day Queen and as it comes to an end I find myself reflecting on the opportunities this experience has offered me. I would first like to start by thanking some of the people who made this possible. I would like to thank my child attendants, Jocelyn Crocker and Maddox Barnaby, Cheryl Forest, Susan Rice, and Brianna Walker for guiding me in the right direction over the past year, Digby Scallop Days committee, the Municipality of Digby for sponsoring me in the 85th Apple blossom Leadership competition, community members who have showed me nothing but support, and my family for helping me through this busy year. Having a crown on your head and being able to dress up in fancy clothes can be seen as the best part of this experience, but truly the best part is one’s development of leadership skills, the push to step out of your comfort zone, and the development of communication skills. Being a leader is something that is become more important now than ever. Behavioral theorists say Leaders are made not born; one becomes a leader through teaching, observation, and experience. That is exactly what this competition does. It teaches young adults to become strong, respectful, and passionate advocates for their area through observation and teaching of past leaders and respected community members while also providing an opportunity for practice and recognition for their hard work. Because of this, I feel very passionately about the continuation of this leadership competition in the Digby and I am excited to see future representatives for Digby county have the same experience as me as it was an honor for me to represent Digby as Scallop Day Queen 2016.

As my reign as Scallop Queen 2015 comes to an end and I reflect on the past year I realize how truly blessed I have been to be able to represent this beautiful town I call home. It has been a year filled with many new experiences, new friendships and wonderful memories. I have had the privilege to attend many community events as a representative of Digby as well as numerous parades from Clare to New Minas with each one being an opportunity for me to learn and grow in areas such as public speaking and self confidence. One of the highlights of my year was representing the Municipality of Digby at the 84th annual Apple Blossom Festival and I would like to say a big thank you to Linda Gregory and the municipality for giving me that opportunity. It was an amazing week and an experience that I will never forget. Of course I couldn’t have made it through this busy year without the help of so many wonderful people. To Cheryl Forrest, Susan Rice, Mayor Ben Cleveland and the Scallop Days committee, thank you for all of your help this past year as well as the many hours you put into making this festival so special every year. To my parents and sister, thank you for the drives, the support and the love. And finally to the people of Digby, thank you for all of the kind words and encouragement I have gotten from so many of you throughout the year, it has truly meant the world to me. It was an honor for me to represent Digby as Scallop Days Queen 2015.
